Sumitomo Life adopts Bloomberg RMS Enterprise for research
The firm's Equity Alpha Group will use the solution across research and portfolio construction, with a module connecting portfolio data to outside systems.
Bloomberg announced on November 6, 2026 that Sumitomo Life Insurance Company has adopted Bloomberg's Research Management Solutions (RMS Enterprise), an enterprise research management solution for institutional investment teams. Sumitomo Life is the first institutional investor in Japan to adopt the solution.
Bloomberg RMS Enterprise lets institutional investment firms centralize proprietary research, financial models, investment recommendations and commentary in a governed environment. It connects those materials with Bloomberg data and portfolio analytics.
The solution will support Sumitomo Life's Equity Alpha Group, including its Japan Equity Team, Global Equity Team and Engagements Team. It covers the investment research process, from idea generation and financial modelling to investment recommendations and portfolio construction.
Custom setup and data links
The solution has been customized for Sumitomo Life's investment process. The firm can centrally manage and use its proprietary research templates and data fields through a unified dashboard.
Sumitomo Life will also adopt BQL for PORT Enterprise, an API module for Bloomberg Query Language within Bloomberg PORT. The module lets data from its portfolio positions be integrated with external systems.
With BQL for PORT Enterprise, Sumitomo Life can connect its internal research and proprietary data, including its portfolio holdings. Its investment team can then evaluate investment ideas more efficiently alongside existing positions and risk exposures.
Kota Kanno, General Manager of the Balanced Portfolio Investment Department at Sumitomo Life, said: "As market conditions become increasingly complex, we believe that enhancing the quality of investment decision-making requires individual investment professionals to make better use of the insights generated throughout the organization. With Bloomberg RMS Enterprise and BQL for PORT Enterprise, we will be able to centrally manage and share our proprietary research and data accumulated across the firm and combine these insights with our portfolio information. We are confident that this will further enhance the efficiency of our entire investment management process, from identifying investment ideas and making investment decisions to portfolio construction."
Existing tools and AI assistant
Sumitomo Life is a longstanding Bloomberg client. It also uses Bloomberg Asset and Investment Manager (AIM), PORT Enterprise, Bloomberg FX Electronic Trading (FXGO), Bloomberg Fixed Income Trading (FIT) and Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL) across its investment workflow.
RMS Enterprise users can access ASKB, the Bloomberg Terminal's conversational AI interface, to analyze and surface insights from their team's research and proprietary financial models. ASKB helps investment teams refine their investment theses with agentic AI assistance across the full investment research lifecycle.
Norman Tweeboom, Head of Enterprise Sales, Japan at Bloomberg, said: "Sumitomo Life has a clear vision for how technology can strengthen its investment process, and we're proud to support that ambition. By bringing Bloomberg's high-quality data, analytics and research capabilities closer to its investment teams, we're helping Sumitomo Life get more value from its proprietary expertise and for their teams to make more informed investment decisions. This marks an important milestone in our longstanding technology relationship and for the further deployment of our leading research management solution in Japan."
RMS Enterprise is part of Bloomberg Buyside Solutions, which delivers multi-asset capabilities across the full investment lifecycle. Bloomberg Buyside Solutions offers a modular and flexible approach, with research management, order and execution management, portfolio and risk analytics, trade compliance and operations capabilities.
